So you’ll tweak my copy for me?

I certainly will. “Tweaking”, “switching it up” and “making it sound better” are all services I offer.

It’s good to understand something first though. You might not find copyediting to be much cheaper than briefing me to write something from scratch.

“How so?” I hear you ask.

Well, because believe it or not, it can be trickier to untangle copy and pull through the main ideas, especially if it’s something that’s new to me. As much as it’s reassuring to send me a “draft” that has all the key points in it, a thorough brief that I follow from scratch will often get you a better end result.

How does my copyediting service work?

Here’s my guideline copyediting process:

Set-up call.

We’ll spend some time getting to know each other. Even though I’m editing existing work, it’s really important that I understand your business and audience before I start writing for you. You’ll probably find I spend lots of time asking you questions you’d never thought you’d hear. I’ll give you a couple of briefing forms to complete – we’ll talk through this together.

Tap, tap, tap.

I get editing. It may be that there are words or phrases that sound ambiguous in the original copy. In which case I’ll check in with you to make sure I’ve interpreted the meaning correctly.

Back to you.

Voila! You get your copy, shiny and ready to go.

Copyediting Questions

What sort of copy will you copyedit?

I’ll do pretty much anything for you. Blogs, web copy, bios… if you can think of it, I’ll probably be able to do it for you.

Is copyediting cheaper than writing from scratch?

Not always. As a writer I follow a specific format for different types of copy. If you’ve written something that’s a long way from finished, without a clear focus it can actually take me longer than writing for you from scratch. In which case I’ll treat your draft as a brief and cost for copywriting from scratch.

Is copyediting the same as proofreading?

No, they’re different things. Want to know more? Here’s a great guide.

How much does your copyediting cost?

I price my copyediting based on the time taken to do the work and charge £60 per hour. I’ll log my time and charge you accordingly.

Because it’s helpful (and sensible) to have an idea of costs before you commit I’ll give you an estimate of how long I think your job will take before we get started.

Can you book me in?

Yes! Get in touch with me and we’ll get started.
